Clinton: U.S., Russia must go beyond Cold War

Hillary Clinton was speaking to Russian college students this week. She was admonishing those in the U.S. and Russian governments that many of them are not over the Cold War. Clinton said that these people are living in the past, and need to move on, and because of that they are unable to make decisions in the preset involving missile defenses because they don't trust each other. Clinton said, "Let's be smarter than our past." She also offered to bring a new attitude bring to the relationship.



I think Hillary has a very good point in that we need to get over the past. If Germany was still mad at us for beating them in WWII, they wouldn't cooperate with us at all. We, U.S. and Russia, need to get over what happened between us, and get our acts together. We were once the two powerhouses of the world and now we are acting like children. Once we get over the past, we will finally be ready for what will happen in years to come.

Dalai Lama urges U.S. to address rich-poor issue

The Dalai Lama was accepting a human rights prize when he began to criticize the United States by saying the gap between the richest and poorest of this nation is much too large. He said that the U.S. should really look into the poorer and less-privileged people in our country. They are people too, and they should have the same rights and opportunities as the wealthier people in this nation. "When I think of America, I think of the idea -- concept of freedom, liberty, equality. I think these are real human values," he said. The award he was given was in honor of recognizing the unending fight against ending global injustice.

I think the Dalai Lama has called upon an extremely touchy subject. The fact that he brought that up while he was given an award for global injustices makes it even more meaningful. I have to agree with him. The gap in this nation is ridiculously oversized. Bill Gates, once again the richest man in the world, is incredibly wealthy. However, he gives generously to charities. Then there are the rich men and women who hoard it up and then blow it on cars or the second and third houses. Instead, they could help out the hundreds or thousands of people in this nation who are on the streets living on garbage and money that they have begged for. We need to work on this issue and give everyone the opportunity to have a successful life making money.

Obama not overexposed

Recently, Obama has been going around the world and doing many press conferences. The topics of which are varying. He has been pushing a lot for the new healthcare system, but some are much smaller topics that have much less meaning and importance. Some people feel that Obama is going overboard with all these meetings, and that he needs to settle down and get back in the office and actually do the things he is saying all the time.

I don't really feel that Obama is overexposed. He is doing exactly what this country needs at the moment, and that is going out and getting something done. He is out doing speeches and meetings all over the country. Instead of sitting in his office saying all the things he could be getting done like Bush did, he is out and telling the American people personally that he is going to do it. In a poll, the people of America said that he is exposing himself too much. I disagree. This country needs a president that is willing to take action.

Iran fires off long-range missiles in latest test

Iran fired off two long range missiles in a test Monday morning. They are two types of extremely advanced missiles developed and manufactured by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Hossein Salami says that the Iran air force is still waiting on confirmation of whether the missile hit the target or not. The expected range brings in most of Southern and Eastern Europe.

I feel Iran should not be firing off long range missiles. They have enough enemies and problems in the political world right now as it is. Now with them firing off nuclear weapons, bringing in some major cities in range, the world leaders will not be very happy with this.
